Mastering is the last opportunity to check and adjust the audio before the CD is pressed. Mastering is the final chance to adjust levels, set equalization, trim fades, sequence selections, provide proper start and stop marks, and to hear your material exactly as it will sound after pressing. The mastering procedure requires an entirely different set of skills and equipment. A mastering room resembles an audio laboratory more than a recording studio because powerful computers and specialized measuring and processing equipment are required.
